Health officials are warning Southern California residents about invasive mosquitoes that bite during the daytime and may spread diseases such as dengue fever, chikungunya, and yellow fever. Three mosquito species have become more common throughout the region and are adapting well to neighborhood environments.
Officials recommend:
• Remove standing water from containers and flowerpots
• Keep trash bins covered
• Seal rain barrels
• Use insect repellent
• Watch for small black mosquitoes with white stripes
• Report mosquito activity
These mosquitoes can breed indoors and outdoors and complete their life cycle quickly.
