Renters: You Have Rights

While the City calls on the federal government, the President, and Congress, to take substantial action immediately to protect and assist renters, City of Los Angeles' tenants remain protected by the City Council's eviction moratorium.

If you cannot pay some or all of your rent because of COVID-19, you cannot be evicted during the City's local emergency, and you have a year to pay back whatever you might owe. We encourage you to pay your full rent if you can, but know you have protections in place if you cannot.

State and federal law may add further protections.

If you receive an unlawful eviction notice or are subject to intimidation or illegal actions, please file a complaint with HCIDLA at hcidla.lacity.org or call their hotline at 1-866-557-7368.
